One mistake I've discovered I make with poetry, especially a poetry collection, is to move on from one poem to the next as if I was reading chapters from a novel. This year, I've decided I would open a book of poems and read one poem from it per day: but READ the poem, taking time out of my day to contemplate and digest. This post did a great job of justifying that decision. Thanks!
I’m glad it justified that for you, James! I decided to do one “nice thing” at a time for this series (as opposed to another weekly roundup or something like that) with similar reasoning--in order to really sit with each thing and thoroughly appreciate it, poems included. I love the thought of making a little home in a poem for the day, allowing yourself the time to burrow in and get cozy before moving on to the next.

V true! Then once you find your way in--with a particular poem, or even a single line--it’s so incredibly life-affirming. *me, raving about poetry*
