We are living in amazing times, to be sure. I don't buy late-stage capitalism.

I agree, and I'm of the yes/and mentality. What don't you "buy" about late-stage capitalism? (Fitting choice of words, lol...)

Most of humanity embraces capitalism and tries to maximize its benefits while minimizing its downsides. With AI and automation, a universal basic income (expanded social security) will probably be implemented to supplement capitalism. As such, I don't believe capitalism is in its death throes. I don't see working alternatives.

Hmm, well to each their own! I don't personally believe most of humanity is minimizing its downsides... I think capitalism as a whole, in the way it's operating now, is completely unsustainable, in regards to environmental impact and for other reasons besides. It will require collective effort for humanity to envision and implement "working alternatives." Maybe we can't see it now, but I believe a world like that is within our grasp.

And actually, I'll edit that to say that I *can* envision it. That's why I believe it's possible!

Upon examination, it does seem at times that the downsides of capitalism are ignored by those who have. With breakthroughs in science and technology increasing at a dizzying pace, a new chapter in economics may be in order. I hope that the collective will help build a world where severe economic equality and environmental degradation have been solved.
